| Senior Member ![]() | I've just read a book by Beverly Lewis set in an Amish community and I realise that films aside I know almost nothing about the Amish and Mennonite communities. I know they live in closed community and do not use technology etc but that's it. Does anyone know what they believe or don't believe? Are they Bible believing Christians? (Didn't know where to put this question, sorry if it's in the wrong forum). |

Rep Power: 1 ![]() | i don't know much about the amish, but i do know a bit about mennonite, b/c i am mennonite. for mennonites, they don't all live in closed communites, but that's because there are different types of mennonites i suppose. the way i grew up, we had sort of a mennonite culture and a mennonite religion. so, you can be mennonite without doing anything with religion...haha, that probably doesn't make any sense, but i'm not even sure of all the details either. religion wise, yes, they believe the bible and everything in it. in fact, they are probably a more stricter type. sorry this is all pretty vague, but i hope it helps! |

| Senior Member ![]() | Thank you all for finding this information for me, both websites were very interesting and answered all the questions I had. The closest we have here to either group is known as Plymouth Brethren, they tend to own small businesses and aim for self-sufficiency, they live in community, the women don't cut their hair and always wear small headscarves. |
