If anyone knew loss and sorrow it was Job. The Old Testament book bearing his name tells us:
• Someone stole his livestock.
• His wealth was destroyed.
• His employees were murdered.
• 10 children were wiped out in a freak storm.
• Later, Job was covered with boils from head to toe.
The man was in shock, grieving, bankrupt, and aching physically, emotionally, spiritually. And------there was no explanation. None!!!! Not a single human reason.
In Job 2:10, Job comes to a radical conclusion, which he held on to. It’s expressed in a question:
“Shall we accept good from God and not trouble?”
Hidden in that question are three truths:
1. God is TOO KIND to do anything cruel.
Goodness is God’s nature.
He cannot do anything that isn’t good.
Life isn’t good---but God is!
2. God is TOO WISE to make a mistake.
3. God is TOO DEEP to be understood.
He is mysterious.
You’ll never fathom what He is about or figure Him out.
In Romans 11: 33, 34, the Holy Spirit brought the Apostle Paul to that conclusion,
“ O, the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God.
How unsearchable are His judgments. For who has known the mind of the Lord or who could sit down, pull up a chair, and counsel Him?”
God is too kind to do anything cruel.
God is too wise to make a mistake.
God is too deep to be understood.
And these three truths tied a knot at the end of Job’s rope. It’s what kept him from drowning in a sea of sorrow.
I think this song really speaks to this devotional......
