| Each year we get smaller and smaller. Growing up we had a 2 acre garden including tons of cucumbers each of us kids had so we could pick for the pickle factory and make money. Then when I got married we had about half acre with tomatoes, beans, carrots, beets, corn, artichokes, grapes, strawberries, raspberries, asparagus, rhubarb, squash, lettuce, spinach, peppers, and everything else you can imagine. I had a small greenhouse business so we tried lots of different stuff. I also was a stay at home mom so I did huge amounts of canning and freezing. We also raised 4 pigs and turkey ducks every year so all we really bought from the store were personal items, dairy and cleaning supplies. We bought beef from my sister's farm and we had the pork and chicken and then also venison from hunting season... Well now all has changed and with the kids gone we've gone down to more fresh eating like tomatoes, squash, beans, peppers, rhubarb, blackberries, raspberries, lettuce and if any room we'll try to squeeze other little treats in. I was going to college for horticulture years ago. I can't garden like I used to because of the fibromyalgia I fight so do miss doing what I used to but hubby still keeps things going. I LOVE FRESH VEGGIE AND BERRY TIME!!! We're getting into strawberry picking time here now.
