Post The Holy Spirit and His Presence

I recently received an e-mail from Barna research that stated most American Christians do not believe in Satan or the Holy Spirit. I didn't get a chance to read the e-mail just yet. However, this has been on my heart for quite some time, as God has placed such a sadness over things concerning the state of the Body of Christ here in America. The e-mail subject alone pretty much confirmed things God has shown me. If anyone remembers, I started to share this with people here in the form of a survey (Here)

So, I wanted to start a discussion on what you each believe regarding the Holy Spirit. Who is He? What does He do? Does He exist at all? Etc. Is He a "he" or is "Holy Spirit" just a phrase for something else altogether?

I think it's important to have these thought-provoking discussions with fellow believers! Not a debate to see who is right or who is wrong, either. What is, the Truth?

Yea there is a Holy Spirit....
I think that he comes upon us and lives inside us when we commit our lives to God and believe in Jesus (not just because we said a prayer, but when we have repented and placed our faith in Christ). I am by no means a educated as much as I should be in what the Holy Spirit is and does but the way I see it is the Holy Spirit is kind of a Spiritual Heart, we have a physical heart which pumps blood through our body, well the Holy Spirit pumps the righteousness of Christ through our bodies... the only difference to me is we have to allow him to do that and sin like cholesterol can damage that relationship

Well I don't know how Biblical my analogy was but it was just an idea I had.... ....

Just trying to get some activity back here in the threads! . . . Where is everyone?!

I've been wanting to work on my website, but it seems God has been stirring in my heart, some pages regarding the Holy Spirit more than anything else. That's quite different it seems from the rest of my website, but it's like I can't do anything else . . . So God's Will be done.

As for everyone else . . . . time to wake up everyone! I miss seeing y'all and having some good fellowship!

I think this is the perfect first topic for me to reply to coming back here for the first time in a very long time (waves hey to all my old friends here!). There is indeed The Holy Ghost which is none else than the Spirit of God Himself! Jesus said he would send the Comforter to us. Peter told us on the day of Pentecost when the people asked what should they do, "be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost". The gift of God's spirit is not only essential to our salvation but our walk as well. I believe it is a key ingredient to our success as Christians and our ability to know what God's will is for our lives.

Well . . . Let me post this to see if we can get some other posts going with this thread. Just some scriptures and thoughts to see if they can stir up some more posts:

Who is the Holy Spirit? (Psalm 51:11 / Isaiah 63:10-11 / Luke 11:13 / Ephesians 1:13 / Ephesians 4:30 / 1 Thess. 4:8)

aka:

Holy Ghost (scriptures where the Holy Ghost is mentioned) Matt. 1:18,20 / Matt. 3:11 / Matt. 12:31-32 / Matt. 28:19 / Mk. 1:8 / Mk. 3:29 / Mk. 12:36 / Mk. 13:11 / Lk. 1:15,35,41,67 / Lk. 2:25 / Lk. 3:16,22 / Lk. 4:1 / Lk. 12:10 / Lk. 12:12 / Jn. 1:33 / Jn. 7:39 / Jn. 14:26 / Jn. 20:22 / Acts 1:2,5,8,16 / Acts 2:4,33,38 / Acts 4:8,31 / Acts 5:3,32 / Acts 6:3,5 / Acts 7:51,55 / Acts 8:15,17-19 /Acts 9:17,31 / Acts 10:38,44-45,47 / Acts 11:15-16,24 / Acts 13:2,4,9,52 / Acts 15:8,28 /Acts 16:6 / Acts 19:2,6 / Acts 20:23,28 / Acts 21:11 / Acts 21:11 / Acts 28:25 / Rom. 5:5/Rom. 9:1 / Rom. 14:17 / Rom. 15:13,16 / 1 Cor. 2:13 / 1 Cor. 6:19 / 1 Cor. 12:3 / 2 Cor. 6:6 / 2 Cor. 13:14 / 1 Thess. 1:5 / 2 Tim 1:14 / Titus 3:5 / Heb. 2:4 / Heb. 3:7 / Heb 6:4 / Heb. 9:8 / Heb. 10:15 / 1 Pet. 1:12 / 2 Pet. 1:21 / 1 Jn. 5:7 / Jude 1:20 /
Comforter John 14:16,26 / John 15:26 / John 16:7
Spirit of Truth John 14:17 / John 15:26 / John 16:13

1)The Holy Spirit is simply put: The Spirit of God
2)The second person in the Trinity/Godhead (1 John 5:7)

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, that has been given to us for several reasons.

Why are we given the Holy Spirit?

To enable us to be sons and daughters of God, no longer children of the devil.

Romans 8:15
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
2 Cor. 6:16
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

So we can be witnesses of Jesus Christ to the whole world

Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

To be our Comforter, someone right with us to both comfort and help us in good times and in bad times.

John 14:16
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

To remind us of what Jesus said.

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

To teach us the things of God.

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
1 Cor. 2:10-13
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. [11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. [12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. [13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

To relay to us the things God tells us personally and also in His Word.

John 16:13-15
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. [14] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. [15] All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
(John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth)

To enable us to behave ourselves.

2 Cor. 6:16-18
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. [17] Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, [18] And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Ezekiel 11:19-20
And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: [20] That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
Ezekiel 36:27
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
(Matthew 7:15-20 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. [16] Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? [17] Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. [18] A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. [19] Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. [20] Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. )

So we can kill/crucify the old sinful ways, so we can actually LIVE.

Romans 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Galatians 5:24
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Guides us to let us know what to do and say.

Acts 13:2
As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
Mark 13:11
But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
