Default Christian Apathy

Today I've been a little sad and mad at the same time.

What are your thoughts on apathetic Christians?
Christians who don't care about the Truth much as opposed to just wanting to flow through life.
Those who go to church and go home.
Those who may complain about church or ungodly things but never care about seeking the Truth, OR following the Bible's Guidelines on how to deal with ungodly things (which does not include complaining about it and that's it).
Those who have the belief that the pastor or minister is the one who has these strict guidelines in life that they must obey the Bible to a Tee, but then when presented with things the Word says they should do, they ignore or shy away from it or defend their actions or something. . . along the lines of "Well he's the pastor, HE's the one who needs to do it, not me."

I do believe such apathy is getting rampant in the body of Christ. This is being lukewarm and being spewed from the Mouth of God. This is like the falling away that was foretold to happen before the end.

I know though, that personally I have found myself to be lacking in reading and praying as I should and as I used to. Which grieves my heart as well as I'm sure it grieves God, and the Holy Spirit Himself too.

What about you all? What are your thoughts? What are your feelings on this matter? Analyzing yourself, do you find yourself having some areas you've become apathetic and lax in? . . . And if so, what are you going to do about it?

One never used to hear the word apathy in the same sentence with Christian. So many in life are apathetic and full of me-i-tis and the like. Now before anyone gets upset with what I'm saying know I'm talking generalities not specifics. I have no stats to throw at you I'm talking what I have seen in my line of work and in ministry and it doesn't mean you...unless you're feeling guilty cuz it fits!

I'll get calls at work as a 911 dispatcher complaining about totally mundane things. When I ask 'have you spoke with your neighbor/child/spouse about this' I'll get, that's your job/why should I/doesn't matter. People have gotten where they do not even wish to try. So too it is occuring with Christians. They may be Bible believing but if God doesn't answer in their way, then God isn't answering. WRONG. His timing is always perfect/ALWAYS! Am I my brothers keeper, I feel I am. Am I to hold someone I care for accountable, not just family but also my Christian brothers and sisters, of course. But it is to be done in love and not in judgment. I've been burned many times by those that I've trusted and have done for, only to be spit on and taken advantage of. People make comments as to why I do this, or why bother. Because GOD bothered!!! I always always always see the best in a person. Perhaps it is a gift God has given me. I can see the garbage too but inherently everyone has a positive part that can be built on, nurtured and hopefully grown. Is it easy NOPE not usually, especially if deeply wounded, but worth it, OH YEAH

Amen, sister, Amen!

I think a lot of what you said, has a lot to do with Christians so focused on the work, instead of God. Which then develops into "Well they don't appreciate it, so why should I bother!" Or "I never get noticed for doing it, so why bother?"

The children of God need to fall in love with God, the way God loves us!

So how do we change this. I know it has to begin with self, and you must admit when times are tough like now it is hard for a weak Christian or non-believer to give a rip. Even now with my hubby being laid off for over 3 months, we count ourselves fortunate as we see God providing what we need instead of our wants which is fine because it has brought our focus to who indeed is our Provider.

I think it is important that the Christian focus should be on what Jesus did for us on the cross and not what is he going to do for us today. I hear it so often said that God has blessed my life with this or that and that is very true everything we have is because of HIm and by Him but when the stuff in our lives becomes the focus, the Devil begins to smile because he knows that stuff is temporary and when it is gone the person who has built his house on sand is going to become angry and turn away from God.

I think when we complain.... I say we.... with the fingers pointing at me... it is because I have a wrong understanding of who and what God is. God is not a cosmic vending machine. When we want a candy bar we don't drop a prayer in the slot and selct A2..... God's work was done when Jesus died on the cross for our sins and then defeated death by rising from the dead!

We don't get mad at our car and complain that our car won't fly stright....
We don't get mad because out Chicken Nuggets don't taste like a hamburger....

So why do people get mad and filled with "apathy" when God and the Church doesn't jump through hoops the way they think it should?

We live in a world where we who understand the truth must take up the cross and call the lies for what they are lies.

If someone is having a problem with this have them read the book of Acts. It describes the first Church and what they did and how it worked, it described what the followers of Jesus Christ had to endure.... and we get upset when our McGod gets our order wrong....

Who are we....????????
to think such....?????????

Please I am preaching to myself the loudest.... don't take offense....

God Bless
Nate

So you are saying go back to the root of it all!!!! Oh yes. We get so caught up in living what is put before us. Bible studies and sharing in a group are great tools to keep rooted in him and growing and nurturing our Christian walk. It if fine to do so independently also but to be a Christian is not to do so passively but rather actively. I understand the lack of energy issue greatly. I fight it constantly with fibromyalgia. I have to bring myself into prayer and God does lead me in ways that fit those times.

I think, Nate, that you hit the nail on the head with that post there. It's so true!

I often think of it like this: Many Christians are like little kids in the sense that if they don't get what they want right when they want it, they overreact with a "God doesn't love me" "God is mad at me" "God must have said no" "WHY GOD WHY!" and for a little prick on the finger they behave as though their arm is falling off! And it definitely has a lot to do with the fact that so many times, Christians look at the now and at the material things God is doing for them. They don't remember that the same God that lifted them up yesterday, is the same God who is waiting to lift them up today, and is the same God who will lift them up tomorrow.

It has everything to do with two things:
Learning to TRUST God.
Learning to LOVE God.

We need to learn to Trust God because He is TRULY TRUSTWORTHY and FAITHFUL!

And we need to learn to Love God, with the same love that HE loves US!

When that happens, our Walk with God will be more solid than ever before!
