Question Twilight or not to Twilight....

That is the question.

The Twilight Saga books and now the films have been a worldwide sensation selling millions of copies and being seen by millions of people.

My friend's daughter has seen New Moon seven times at the cinema already and has seen Twilight innumerable times.

Only last week a Cardinal at the Vatican condenmed the whole saga as being "a moral void".

Vatican sinks teeth into vampire film Twilight - Telegraph

What do you good people think?

I'm hearing all the buzz about it and even positive comments from other Christians. For me just the concept of vampires turns me off to even look further into whether the movie is good or not, moral or not or whatever it is. Doesn't matter what kind of movie though to me...if it causes people's heads to spin and things to become so commercialized, is that a right indulgence?

Well for things like this, if it glorifies unbiblical principals then it's a no-go for me.

I have to recall Philippians 4:8 for this one too. I suppose because of the area I live and how saturated it is in the occult, that I'm so adamant against things that paint anything occultic in even a slightly good light. I've seen where it leads, even to those who are strong Christians who begin simply to involve themselves in it.

It goes to how the Word talks about how seeds are planted in our hearts and such, and is why we are warned in the above verse Philippians 4:8 to not take part and give our attention to those things.

However, do I believe that reading/watching those things will send someone to hell? Not at all. It is simply one of those cautionary areas that wisdom cries out not to walk into because it could lead to worse things. Most often it leads to those worse things, ever so subtly that it's not noticed until too late

There are a lot of things in this world that we have to be cautious about. Not that those things are necessarily sinful in themselves, but that . . . . well what we put our focus on, and allow to enter into our minds (which is where the devil most attacks us and is why we are told to put every thought into subjection to Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5, and to gird up the loins of our minds 1 Peter 1:13), will indeed affect us whether we want to admit it or not. So it's one of those things that Christians must be forewarned to be careful about, and constantly keep themselves in check even MORE than ever before if they choose to go down such paths...

Having posed the question I'll give my opinion, I actually really like the books and films, despite the characters being vampires and werewolves the story is very moral (it really surprised me because I have read other vampire stuff and they are definitely not!). I would even go so far as to say some of the characters (vampire ones) are Christian. Lots of these types of films and books use Christian imagery but it means little or nothing, in the Twilight books there is little imagery (crosses and holy water don't feature at all) but iit has quite a strong moral core.

I don't have much time now but I will expand next time I log in.

I know many Christians have flocked to these movies. However, without investigating further I guess I can't give informed comment. I just know I've never checked further just because of the premise that is the foundation of the movie. Lots of things are moral and ethical and still not Christian...even some alledged Christian movies.

I have not seen the movies or read the books, my daughter loved the books but didn't care for the movies, so I can not say too much about it.

When it comes to any entertainment I think we should look at from a moral stand point and not rather is it Christian or Secular. I feel entertainment is like anything else, when used in a wrong way it becomes evil, I think of it in the terms of drinking alcohol.

Is drinking a sin....?????
I personally do not think so but the effects of drinking.... man o man it can lead to sin quickly..... it can also lead others to sin as well which I will be accoutible for.

I don't think watching a movie which might not be morally yoked with the Bible and God will send you to Hell no more than drinking a beer will but I think we have to be very carful and look closely at the situation. The more we put between us and God the more the fog of the world moves and the more our desires and love of this world moves in and that can very well send us or help someone else down their road to Hell.

Just my thoughts

I agree, I found the fact that the books and films had a moral core quite refreshing, so many films and books are empty of any meaning or morality.

What I have found interesting about the Twilight books and films in particular is that in this country the film magazines and newspapers have really disliked the books and films BECAUSE they have a sense of morality, they have been accused of preachiness and trying to promote teenage chasity and abstinence.
