Pray Re: To what extent did your family encourage you in your Christian faith?

I was taken to church the very first sunday, after I was born, we were always there when the doors were open. I had to miss my first sunday, in 1996 when in so many words and I wished I had been able to record it, that since I signed up to help the maintenance teem for the week, that the plant was shut down, that I had to work Sunday or find another job. Boy did that irritate me, especially since I volunteered to be on the list. My parents were very strict, actually too strict, we were so afraid of them(even though they never physically abused us), that we were afraid to say slang words, like crap!! They were so strict, that when we were watching tv, and they said slang, nothing like today, just like crap, s*x, etc, we could give the show 2 chances, if they said 2 slang words, we had to turn it, no matter how much was left of the show. Now do not take this wrong, but I think sometimes it can be bad to be raised so strict, because you never really got a chance to have fun. Also to always be raised in church, because we always take advantage of things we always have. Same with Christianity.

Well . . . I personally grew up with my family rejecting me because I chose to follow Christ when the Lord led me to Him right before I turned 9. It made me pray for death every night for a long time until the Lord spoke to me on that issue. Of course, I then honestly tried suicide many many times, each time the Lord keeping harm from me, ultimately when I was about 17 or so, the knife didn't cut my skin no matter how hard I tried. The Lord then loud and clear, rebuked, corrected, and loved me and said, "I decide when you die! Not you! You still have work to do for Me." That was the last time.

Growing up I always prayed and asked others to pray for my family's salvation and walk with the Lord. Recently though, even recent enough that many here may know , God finally got through my thick head to give them to Him to deal with instead of me trying so hard to help them . . . and first my mom started regularly coming to church with me, then she walked with the Lord and walks still, growing closer. Then my stepfather Kent as well!

So despite all the things I went through growing up, which I only see as preparation and growth that the Lord walked with me through, I praise God for His Blessings beyond measure!

AMEN, HS, we are always in training for God, and He will use whatever means He needs to train us. I am so glad that God did not allow you to end your life, because we would have missed out a great friend on here, if you had ended your life. God bless you.

Growing up Catholic was a bit complicated since my dad had been divorced and married my dad, and hence, manmade laws determined they were not 'in the church'. For years we were dropped at the church steps and picked up afterwards. Thank goodness for some positive changes so my parents eventually went back to church and were a part of it. I do not live in the confines of religion now, but rather His law and His teachings. I have been attending a pentecostal church for years. I have been blessed with believing parents even though man tried to keep them from Him.

Growing up catholic does sound complicated, . I did think of something though, if your dad was welcome, it looks like you and your siblings would not have been welcome either, or that maybe your parents just wouldn't have wanted you to go there. another one of those "it doesn't matter" just curious.

Kind of like the Amish, they are not allowed to own modern vehicles, but they can ride in them, looks to me that if it is wrong to own them then it would be wrong to ride in them.

Well with the Amish, from my friends who are Amish, they've explained how it's not so much as it's wrong or evil to own modern technology, but rather that they believe owning them would lead one to become too "attached" to the world and it's ways. So they don't condemn them or those who own them, but "to be safe" so to speak, would not want to own the stuff.

Sorry . . .gone off topic for a bit there

There were a lot of Amish down in the state of Indiana where my parents live and one of them is a doctor, my parents actually go to him, he practices irodigy. He has helped them tremendously. He is very open when you want to discuss their believes. Don't worry about being off topic, God leads us down different roads at different times. I am sure we have all went off topic at one point or another, because of the way God is leading us.
